Curious Global Music is Being Discovered by A Whole New Audience
In this article, I will be doing a review of various bands from around the world. These bands play indie-pop music but also rock, or even Latin music and afrobeat. The thing is, music is globalised now.
Although this is my taste in music, it may differ from yours. However, you should listen to their songs and research yourself to find out more about them and other new artists. I can guarantee it’s an excellent opportunity to expand our horizons about the art of making music.
It was on my journey through writing this music niche article that I realized how difficult it was for some independent artists to be discovered by listeners, generally, besides the globalisation of the music industry.
A large amount of music currently produced makes it almost unbelievable for independent music to catch the eye of potential fans or industry professionals. It is crucial that they make the right connections with bloggers, tastemakers, curators and record labels.
We would appreciate your support by following us and liking our Spotify playlist. It will put the songs we place on air with more traction.
Let’s dive in, and listen to these new and curious music creations. You can follow our full playlist or listen to each artist individually. Support their art, and enjoy it!
1) MOANZY – Stay
MOANZY is an independent artist who is trying to make it big in the world of music. His new EP, “Stay,” was released in March this year, and has been well received by fans alike.
The EP features alternative bedroom pop, lo-fi hip hop beats, indie R&B and more. This album is a great example of how global music can be discovered by a whole new audience.
The first track on this album is called “Stay,” and it starts off with just a guitar before transitioning into a light pop soundscape with some guitar riffs throughout the track that add some depth to the song as well as make it easy to listen.
The bad part of it is that the song we most liked is too short, but it’s a good sign as it means we wanted some more.
It’s very catchy and a bit romantic, and melodic, making it perfect for people who want something light but still feels like they’re listening to something new!
2) THE BEST AROUND – Didn’t Come Here To Count ‘Em
The Best Around is a band of three guys from the US who have been making music together for some time. They are best known for their alt-country and alt-folk songs, and have been described as a ‘cosmic honky-tonk big band’.
Their latest single, “Didn’t Come Here To Count ‘Em,” is a prime example of why they’re catching some attention in the USA, precisely in Austin, Texas.
It has all the makings of an instant classic: it’s got catchy lyrics, driving guitars, and a chorus that will stick in your head for days. If you like your music with some bite, this is exactly what you’ve been waiting for!
The Best Around makes music for people who want to feel something when they listen—whether it’s euphory or joy or excitement or anything else on the spectrum between those three emotions.
Their music is full of movement and fun, which makes it perfect for any occasion from road trip singalongs and parties. Check it out and follow the artist on Spotify.
3) SNAKEDOCTORS – Friday Night
When you’re listening to SNAKEDOCTORS, you know that you’re hearing something new.
The band is 80’s rock meets darkwave synth, but with a modern twist—they’re kind of like if The Cure had been born in the 80s and decided to listen to a lot of FKA Twigs.
Their music is dark and moody, but it also has this pop sensibility that makes it catchy. The vocals are dreamy, but they’re not wistful—they’re just right for the sound.
They are from Poland, and maybe this is the reason they sound different, and we like the differences. The song has a lot of influences from new wave, and the song itself tells the story of what we could do after a hard week at work during the weekend
You might not have heard of them yet, but if you’ve been looking for something new and different in your music library, then now’s your chance! Check out their music video, listen to their song “Friday Night”, and don’t forget to follow them on Spotify today!
4) INDINI – Blue Chandelier
INDINI is a bedroom pop musician who recently released her 5th album, Blue Chandelier. It’s a new music genre which resulted from an online movement about DIY music production, such as Mxmtoon, aka Maia who reached millions through the Internet from inside of her house loft. Bad Guy by Billie Eilish is another example of the movement, it has 1.1 billion views on YouTube, and there is a segmented audience for that.
This album has a very unique sound that mixes synthwave, experimental art-pop and bedroom pop. The result is a kind of music that feels like it was made in a fictional world. It’s a bit industrial too.
It’s very different, and also sounds peculiar as if made for film industry soundtracks, but it also has some exciting moments with good hooks and melodies.
The best part about these artists is that they don’t seem to care too much about how their music will be perceived by others. They just want to make something that pleases themselves first and foremost.
That’s what makes them so special: the fact that their music sounds effortless but at the same time polished this way on purpose, therefore well-executed. Art is like that, there’s no right or wrong, but expression!.
I would recommend this album to anyone interested in soundtracks and the film industry, with the right images it can make the audience travel to different places. Listen and follow the artist on Spotify.
5) BONES IN BUTTER – Beyond The Sea
The indie-pop single “Beyond The Sea” by BONES IN BUTTER is a nostalgic love song that will make you feel like you’re in the ’60s.
It has all the elements of a classic love song, with a modern twist. The band is from Serbia and produced this version of the french song “La Mer”, which was written 75 years ago by Charles Trenet.
This production could be inspired by time travel, really, they brought back a song that was originally produced by Jack Lawrence who wrote the lyrics and Bobby Darin, who popularized the song in 1959, more than 60 years ago.
This song reminds Beach Boys. While it’s hard to imagine this cover being played on mainstream radio stations today, unfortunately, it’s perfect for the indie-pop crowd. If you like your music nostalgic but not too cheesy (or if you just love John Mayer), then this track is for you!
Follow the artist on Spotify, even if you are from the other side of the world.
6) MOON AND ARIES – The Arrival
Moon and Aries is an independent band that has been making waves in the music world with their new single, The Arrival.
The project is a conceptual album, combining their love for a retro sound and a futuristic vibe, they have merged synth-pop with trip-hop and created “Synth Pop Opera.”
The duo from Germany, Cologne, has been creating music together and publishing on Spotify since 2021, their latest single is a departure from their previous work—it’s more upbeat and dancey than previous songs—but still has the same ethereal quality that fans have come to expect from them.
Moon and Aries’ sound is best described as electronic pop, or synthpop with hints of 80’s vibes and of course beautiful female vocals. They’ve got a unique style that draws from many different genres but manages to create something entirely new.
Follow their art on Spotify, they are the golden egg of my article.
7) NOA SABI – Come To Class
Noa Sabi is an independent artist from the UK who has been working on her music for some time, she didn’t start now and has some experience. She’s been a part of the scene for some time, but she’s now getting the recognition she deserves.
The single “Come To Class” is her latest release, and it’s definitely worth the wait. It’s smooth, with a groove that will make you want to dance. The lyrics are catchy and fun, and they remind me of early-2000s Rap.
With her work, Noa seeks to embody that powerful fusion that the world is in search of, which is what their art is striving towards. This is a statement that I totally agree with, this is the reason I’ve checked her other songs and I can tell you, “Rescue” is a piece of art.
If you’re looking for something new to listen to this week, try out Noa Sabi’s new single! Follow the artist on Spotify.
8) LITTLE MOSES JONES – Making Crazy
When I first heard the single “Making Crazy” by Little Moses Jones, I was instantly hooked. The song is a mixture of funk grooves, reggae beats, R&B soul and the female perfect vocals that make it super edgy.
The US-based band combines nostalgic pop and the sound of the 1960s with a modern twist. James Brown says hello!
Little Moses Jones, is a veteran musician who began getting involved with music 30 years ago. He became a multi-instrumentalist at an early age.
I think we can all agree that Little Moses Jones and Anverrea Bennett’s “Making Crazy” is a contemporary dance song that references that golden musical era of the ’60s and 70’s with its classic “get-off-your-butt” beat blended with a fresh sound, making it one of the best dance hits in a very long time!
“Making Crazy” showcases these elements perfectly: it starts off with a funky guitar riff and then transitions into reggae-inspired drums. As the song progresses, we hear more of the band’s influences as they mix funk grooves with soulful vocals over some funky guitar riffs.
Check it out and follow the artist on Spotify, they are amazing and are on tour right now!
9) MATTHEW LIAM NICHOLSON – Time Machine
Matthew Liam Nicholson‘s single, “Time Machine,” is a beautiful, dreamy piece of indie folk that draws on the sounds of soft rock.
The song begins with a catchy guitar riff that evokes the style of American folk-rock band The Grateful Dead.
Nicholson makes music with a dream pop edge, which means that if you like artists like Bon Iver or Sufjan Stevens, then you’ll love his music.
Matt Liam Nicholson has tapped into his creative well and has been putting out new music since late 2021 with much more in the works.
In recent months, the Australian composer has released the immersive and profound guided meditation album “Nine Movements” on Longform Editions, featuring contributions from Los Angeles experimental-jazz savants Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Nino, among others.
According to the Guardian, the album is both “theoretical and medicinal” and put it at the top of their list of great albums you may have missed in 2021, which I totally agree with! His new release is definitely one you need on your playlist this summer.
If you’re looking for something fast-paced but still sweetly melodic, then look no further than “Time Machine”. Follow the artist on Spotify.
10) 9 O’CLOCK NASTY – Food On The Floor
When you think about alternative rock, you imagine some of the most exciting music in the world. But if you’re not an indie connoisseur, it’s easy to feel like you’re missing out on something outstanding.
That is where 9 O’Clock Nasty comes in. The band has been around for a while, but they’ve just recently been discovered by a whole new audience—and we’re so glad they found us!
9 O’Clock Nasty is a post-punk/alt-rock band from Leicester, UK, they released other songs which are available on Spotify since 2021.
Their sound is reminiscent of early alt-rock bands like The Pixies, but with a more modern twist that makes them feel fresh.
The band says that they always wanted to write short songs that are a musical punch in the face and that this is one of our best. It’s about a true story.
“There was a fight at our friend’s funeral, the table with all the food went flying everywhere. We managed to avoid both fight and food but the sight of elderly relatives filling their plates from the carpet, well it had to be captured forever. We genuinely never planned to make this record but once it was written it had to be released. Listen and you’ll probably understand.”
