Hundreds of emails assigned to Dr. Anthony Fauci, White House Health Secretary in the United States, were leaked.
They were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act process brought by BuzzFeed News – covering the period from January to June 2020 – provide a rare glimpse into how Fauci approached his work during the biggest health crisis of the century.
It has e-mails directly with the public, health officials, reporters and even celebrities.

In an email obtained by BuzzFeed, Fauci was advised as early as Jan. 31 by another infectious disease specialist named Kristian G. Andersen that the virus could leak out of a laboratory and be altered artificially. Andersen said in an email to Fauci that, when looking “really closely” at the COVID-19 virus, “some of the features (potentially) look designed.”
Andersen went on to say that he and others “find the genome inconsistent with the expectations of the theory of evolution” but that “those views could still change.”
In a leaked February e-mail sent by Dr. Fauci himself, he makes important considerations about the uselessness of wearing masks, something that has become mandatory and that society accepted without the slightest questioning about the matter.
A woman who was traveling asked Fauci if she should wear a mask at the airport. Fauci said she shouldn’t.
“The masks are really for infected people, to prevent them from spreading the infection to people who are not infected, rather than protecting uninfected people from getting the infection. The typical mask you buy at the pharmacy is not really effective at preventing the infection. Virus entry, which is small enough to pass on the material,” he said in one of the emails obtained by BuzzFeed. “It may, however, provide some benefit in preventing the entry of coarse droplets if someone coughs or sneezes at you. I don’t recommend that you wear a mask, mainly because you’re going to a low-risk location.”
In March 2020, an email sent by Adam Gartner to Dr. Fauci explains how Coronavirus was created, with the subject line: “The method of producing Coronavirus as a biological weapon.”
There are also email exchanges with Peter Daszak, a member of a World Health Organization team, a research funder in Wuhan, and a friend of Fauci’s.
Daszak’s EcoHealth organization received millions in grants from the Obama Administration’s National Institutes of Health (NIH), including a $600,000 grant from Fauci’s agency, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and later paid the Wuhan Institute of Virology to study the risk of bat coronaviruses infecting humans.
When they asked for an investigation in Wuhan to discover the origin of the virus, they put Peter Daszak in charge.
In an email released by BuzzFeed, dated April 2020, involving Dr. Fauci and others, Peter Daszak thanked Erik Stemmy for the effort they are making in the media to try to avoid touching the subject of that source. COVID-19 was not due to a laboratory leak but, of natural origin, the old story and official narrative of the bat:
“I just wanted to say a personal thank you on behalf of our staff and collaborators, for standing up publicly and claiming that the scientific evidence supports a natural origin for COVID-19 from a bat-to-human spillover, not a laboratory release from the Institute of Wuhan Virology “.
Fauci replied, “Thank you very much for your kind note.”
To make matters worse, a new series of emails exchanged by Cristina Cassetti with William J. Buikema, PhD and research associate at the University of Chicago, and again Dr. Fauci himself, states about the risks of experimental mass vaccination and the risks of increased potency of the virus itself, and that was not what he publicly defended. Other emails involving the White House Health Secretary also appear along the same lines, with the same concern.
Both President Biden and Congressional Republicans say the intelligence buildup supports at least a serious analysis of the lab leak theory — Biden said last week that at least some in the US intelligence community believe a lab leak is more likely than animal-to-human transmission.
