After releasing her comeback single “Solar Power” earlier this month, Lorde has announced the release date of her third album of the same name, as well as a 2022 world tour.
Solar Power will be released on Aug. 20, while her tour — which kicks off in North America on April 3, 2022 — will go on sale to the general public on June 25.
The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde says of the follow-up to 2017’s Melodrama in a press statement. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”
Meanwhile, Solar Power will be released in a disc-less, eco-conscious CD alternative called a “Music Box,” designed to minimize the carbon footprint of the new album. Each Music Box will include additional visual content, handwritten notes, exclusive photos and a download card; the card will let customers access the album, two exclusive bonus tracks and other “special surprises” to be announced later.
“I decided early on in the process of making this album that I also wanted to create an environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD,” Lorde says. “I wanted this Music Box product to be similar in size, shape and price to a CD, to live alongside it in a retail environment, but be something which stands apart and that’s committed to the evolving nature of a modern album.”

Melodrama, which was nominated for album of the year at the 2018 Grammys, has earned 975,000 equivalent album units to date, with 248,000 in pure album sales, according to MRC Data. Like its predecessor, the 12-track Solar Power was produced by Jack Antonoff.
Lorde’s 2022 tour will be promoted by AEG Presents in the United States and Canada, and marks her first North American tour since 2018. Check out the Solar Power track list and Lorde’s newly announced tour dates below:
